For the lazy :
Quote:
Gaming blog Kotaku recently caught up with Hideo Kojima, the brains behind the influential Metal Gear series, shortly after his keynote address at last week's GO3 expo in Perth, Australia. Although both Kojima's speech and the subsequent interview run across the whole gamut of Kojima's development experience, Kotaku asked the question that has been plaguing the minds of PS3 and Xbox 360 fanboys alike:

Will Metal Gear Solid 4 remain PS3 exclusive? To answer this question, Kojima, perhaps appropriately, equated the three next gen systems to a moviegoing experience.

"The PS3 is like the theatre, it's a little bit high-priced but it has to be high quality as well," he explained. "The 360 is a DVD, it still needs to be high quality but you need more variations, while the Wii is almost like a TV channel, because every game you have it with your family".

So how does this relate to PS3 exclusivity, you may ask? When the subject changed to Devil May Cry 4 going multiplatform, Kojima knew exactly where the conversation was going.

"Like I said, MGS4 is aimed for the movie theatre, it's aimed for the PS3, so the game's scenario and graphics need this theatre-type hardware," Kojima responded. "It's when a producer has a game that can work on the 'DVD level' that a game will go multiplatform"

Kojima also stated his belief that any decision made regarding a particular game's multiplatform status is mostly the decision of the game's producer.

The interview also touched on several other hot topics, including motion sensing versus rumble. Kojima stated that he would prefer to include force feedback, and because of the recent settlement between Sony and Immersion, that may be possible. However, he calls the possible implementation of rumble a "race against time", depending on how soon Sony brings forth a controller that once again includes rumble technology.

But Kojima fans also wanted to know if MGS 4 would truly be his last Metal Gear game. In response, Kojima stated:"If users want more Metal Gear, then I will probably step up as producer, like the James Bond series does. That way I can have new, upcoming directors making MGS while I oversee the project, and then perhaps I can move onto something new."

Even if this is true, Xbox 360 fans will still argue that there is a possibility of MGS4 coming to PS3... half of them don't even care for the game, just they want it.DUMB 360 fans

PS3 Week Two Sales Drop “Meaningless”

UK stats merchant Chart-Track says it’s “meaningless” to draw conclusions about PlayStation 3’s performance based on an inevitable sales drop in the console’s second week on sale.

Image Company director Dorian Bloch told Next-Gen, “A figure of an 82% drop has leaked out but that alone means nothing. Given how much pent up demand there was for PS3 and given the sophistication of pre-order systems now, it really doesn’t mean anything.” PS3 sold 165,000 units in its first two days on sale. Its second week sale came in at around 30,000.

Unfortunately, Chart-Track said it would not release comparable figures for Xbox 360 or Wii sales, which would add some context to the figures. Figures for previous week two console launches are unreliable due to the usual shortages problem.

Bloch added, “In almost all console launch scenarios, there has been no stock in a second week on sale. Sony, for a number of reasons, had extra stock available. So there really aren’t many comparable precedents for week two sales. Judging a console based on nine days on sale is just crazy. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Chart-Track gathers sales of hardware and software for the UK and Irish markets. Sony declined to comment on the numbers.

The next issue of OPM UK will include the world's first ever Blu-ray PlayStation demo disc.
The advertisement in the issue says the following:"Important announcement from Official PlayStation Magazine.
Playable PS3 games. From 2 May every issue of OPM will come with a Blu-ray disc packed with PS3 demos. No other magazine can do this."They have the exclusive rights to distribute Blu-ray demo discs, but do we really need a demo disc now that we have the PlayStation Store? We will find out on
May 2nd, when the first demo disc will ship with the 6th issue of OPM UK this year.

Final Fantasy XIII demo statement due this month?

Nick Doerr taps his fingers impatiently, waiting to hear the mail delivery truck to roll past his apartment complex's mailbox hut. Every day, he wonders if that new issue of EGM will arrive. Since the month of the magazine and the actual month are never the same and the delivery dates appear arbitrary, it's little more than a guessing game. However, he's a reason to be excited this time around. Final Fantasy XIII is coming. Maybe.

We reported a long time ago that there might be a demo coming out this year for FFXIII: Crazy Latinese Subtitle and estimated its arrival... let's see... after TGS'07 -- the demo itself was scheduled to be completed by E3'07. Apparently EGM had a little blip inside an issue (it may have been the April issue) confirming such a demo heading to the PS-Store. If we're already hearing that, can we expect it sooner? E3 is just around the corner and down a block, so maybe we'll get that demo then, instead? Whatever, keep your ears open

Resistance:FoM outsold Blue Dragon and VF5 in Japan

http://vgchartz.com/japcomp.php?name1=Virtua+Fighter+5&name2=Resistance%3A+Fall+of+Man

an american made FPS outsold a Japanese made JRPG(by the creator of FF no less) and before you pull the "the PS3 has a bigger install base" card it has also outsold VF5 a pretty popular game there now I am no FPS fan(the only FPS I played was Resistance, which was pretty damn good BTW) but a FPS outselling a JRPG in japan is unheard of, the only reason that game could have sold there is that it is made by Insomniac the makers of Ratchet and Clank which is sorta popular thereit just comes to show you that good games do sell well and Insomniac kick ass

PSP price drops

Sony celebrates its portable system's second anniversary by trimming a handful of Hamiltons off the hardware's Core Pack.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot
Posted Apr 3, 2007 6:35 pm GMT
The PlayStation Portable was released in North America just over two years ago, and to mark the occasion, Sony is dropping the price on the bare-bones package of its gaming handheld. Effective today, the PSP Core Pack (a system with AC adaptor and battery) retails for $169.99, a $30 drop from its previous price point of $199.99.
This is the first price drop for a system package in the PSP line. While the original $249.99 Value Pack was replaced by the $199.99 Core Pack, part of the cost reduction was due to Sony's leaving out accessories like the 32MB memory card.
Sony also announced that the PSP titles Daxter and Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror have now been included in the Greatest Hits line of games and should retail for $19.99.
Analysts welcomed the news, with Lazard Capital Markets' Colin Sebastian saying it should be a shot in the arm for the system.
"We expect a modest step-up in PSP unit sales during an otherwise seasonally slower period for the video game industry," Sebastian said in a note to investors today. "We note that a Wal-Mart promotion on Black Friday last year generated significant sales volume for the PSP at a discounted price of $169, providing one indication of potential consumer demand."
In his own note to investors, Pacific Crest Securities' Evan Wilson said that the system has had trouble meeting sales expectations since its launch, in large part because of its price, and that the price cut should help address that. However, Wilson said the move will likely have a limited effect on the company's finances.

DUSTY VENTS

From Sony Playstation 3 Safety And Support...Says on Page 8 Precaution (When dust accumulates in the system vents, remove the dust with a low-powered vacumm cleaner)

Xbox 360 Elite uses HDMI 1.2; no support for Dolby TrueHD

For audiophiles, this may hurt. For everyone else, this may induce yawning. The Xbox 360 Elite will ship with HDMI version 1.2, as opposed to the latest version 1.3. What do you lose with such a monstrous degradation? HDMI 1.3 adds support for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio streams; this can be accomplished in HDMI 1.2 if the player can decode these streams into uncompressed audio, but unfortunately neither the Xbox 360 nor HD DVD add-on support it. (For reference, the PlayStation 3 was the first device to use HDMI 1.3.)Other differences include audio / lip sync technology, a greater transfer speed -- which would matter if you were outputting above 1080p, but that is currently the maximum resolution -- and Deep Color, which again will be more distinguishable in future resolutions. For now, the only major disparity will be the audio. Does this affect anyone's decision to purchase the Elite?

PS3 now the fastest selling console in history

Posted Mar 31, 2007 at 02:57AM

Sony has hit the 400 million Euro mark to cap off its launch week that saw PAL territories snag 600,000 of Sony's units to make the PS3 not only the most expensive console to date but also, according to ChartTrack, the fastest selling one in game history.Sony sold 165,000 PS3 units in the United Kingdom, some 80,000 more in France and 50-60,000 in Spain, Portugal, Germany and Italy. In addition, 150,000 people have registered to the PlayStation Network the same week. Not bad for the beleaguered kings of modern gaming.Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) president David Reeves said "We saw around Euro 400 million sales going through retail across PAL territories in two days; that’s certainly a big figure, which we’re very proud of."
